Cohesion, Justice, Truth!

Also I beseech you, that you love one another, do not permit good to be oppressed by violence, and desire that every one learns the truth.

I have come to Constance... Pray therefore to God to grant me perseverance, because many enemies and powerful opponents are rising up against me... But I do not fear anything, neither am I worried. I am sustained by the hope that after this great battle will come a great victory, and after the victory a greater reward and greater dishonour for my persecutors. M.J.Hus: Letter from Constance

Constance, May 30, 2016: Dozens of people have gathered in the Luther Church to attend an ecumenical church service in commemoration of Jerome of Prague, who had been burned the very same day, 600 years ago. Among the participants are members of the churches, including the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and the Catholic Church, politicians, notably the president of the Czech parliament as well as the mayor of Constance, pilgrims, citizens and, last but not least, Karolína and myself, researchers from the Masaryk University, Brno. The official ceremony was a paradigmatic example of its genre: Church music, speeches and blessings, dignified, but nothing out of the ordinary. When we left the church, little did we know, that this would not be our last ceremony for today...

In July of 2015 it will already be 600 years since the martyrdom of Jan Hus, who stands in Czech history as an example of the struggle for truth and moral credibility. These Hus Celebrations 2015 will serve as a reminder of the reform thoughts and the life's struggle of such an extraordinary man. The celebrations will take place on Sunday, the 5th of July, and on Monday the 6th of July in the center of Prague.{youtube}V--N92g2ckU|600|450|1{/youtube}

The Czechoslovak Hussite Church perceives the upcoming 600th anniversary of the martyrdom of Jan Hus as a rare opportunity for the church, for the ecumenical community of churches in the Czech Republic and the whole Czech society, as well as European and world civilization, to think newly about the meaning and the legacy of this remarkable personality of our history, but also think over the Christian roots of our nation and the growing tradition of Czech Reformation, which significantly participates in formation of its identity in the context of the whole of Europe. And this is the reason why this website was constructed. We would like to inform you about Master Jan Hus work, life, legacy and events that are organised with aim to commemorate the personality and legacy of Master Jan Hus.

The anniversary of Master Jan Hus is commemorated and celebrated every year within the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and the Slovak Republic on 6th of July and on this commemorative day also with the representatives of all churches in the Czech republic as well as the representatives of the Czech state and international guests in the Bethehemchapell (Prague), brodcasted every year by the Czech TV and Radio. On July 6th of year 2012, during this traditional worship at Bethlehem Chapel on the anniversary of Jan Hus, the time of „Husovské trienium – the Triennium of Master Jan Hus“, that points to 600th anniversary of martyrdom of Master Jan Hus in 2015, was proclaimed.

Students and the guest of the evening Prof Petr Čornej gathered in a Prague’s university students’ club K4 on April 17th 2013 to hold the first of a series of gatherings of Students read Hus! project. The pleasant medieval cellar in the Prague’s centre hosted discussion of some 30 participants of this new project to discuss selected texts of Master Jan Hus.
